Posts, sections and gates
You need one more post than the number of sections (a 120-foot fence at 8-foot spacing has 15 sections and 16 posts). Closer spacing means a stronger, pricier fence. Cost per foot swings widely by material — chain-link is cheapest, then wood, with vinyl and ornamental metal at the top. Gates, concrete for the posts, and rocky digging all add to the total.
